 “WALKING IN MY SHOES”…WIMS
ARE YOU THE PARENT/GUARDIAN OF A CHILD WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DELAY?
HAS YOUR CHILD BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL / PHYSICAL DISABILITY?
WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET OTHER PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?
WIMSIS A GROUP FOR PARENTS WHO COME TOGETHER FOR SUPPORT AND INFORMATION SHARING. You are invited to attend a group get together once a month to meet parents who havesimilar concerns, experiences and feelings related to their child’s special needs. At the group you will have the opportunity to meet, share information and learn about resources and processes from each other. A facilitator will be present to guide discussions and provide links to resources. There will be opportunities for guest speakers and family activities of interest at group members’ request.
When: 3rd Tuesday of each month except in December (Dec. meeting location TBA) (Sept.21, Oct.19, Nov. 16, Dec. 14, Jan.18, Feb.15, March 15, April 19, May 17, June 21.)
Where: Children’s Integration Support Services Office, (CISS) 700 Industrial Ave., suite 600(look for Nedcoon building…CISS office in back)
Time: 7:00-9:00 September 21st WIMS meeting......Recreation and Leisure Programs The City of Ottawa staff, Special Needs Portfolio, will be present from 7:45 to 8:45pm to provide an over view of programs offered and the supports available.
November 16th WIMS meeting…….What about the Siblings? BarbJuett, a Social Worker at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre will facilitate a discussion and offer suggestions to parents to help understand each child’s reactions and needs. Please see website for full description.
